on some of these pages, japanese text from the saga games is represented by ascii sequences in place of kana. (mainly intended as a fallback in case of encoding failure.)
this is sort of based on hepburn romanisation (sa shi su se so, ta chi tsu te to). upper case represents katakana and lower case represents hiragana. voiced su is "zu", but voiced tsu is "dzu". voiced shi is "ji", but voiced chi is "dji".
syllabic n is "n'", with trailing apostrophe, regardless of where it appears. hiragana ha is "ha" even in grammatical contexts where it would be read as the particle "wa"; similarly for "he" and "wo".
long vowels (chouon) are left represented with a dash (ascii hyphen), rather than by doubling the vowel. longsword is "RON'GUSO-DO" and not "RON'GUSOODO".
the small characters for youon and sokuon are not integrated into their syllables, as they would be in normal romanisation, but represented separately with a preceding ampersand. (some files elsewhere on this site use "#" and "*" for sokuon instead of "&tsu" and "&TSU" respectively.)
so for instance, the white tiger appears as "bi&ya&tsuko" instead of the usual "byakko".
the three saga games use an identical glyph for hiragana "he" and katakana "HE". (saga3 also conflates "ri" and "RI".) this means that in an auto-generated text dump, there's no way to know which kana was intended, and files elsewhere on this site just represent this as "he" regardless. for the CoS notes, i've altered the text manually where context implies katakana.
